Race Pace Training – USRPT

The SportCount Pace Trainer model is being used by many swim teams and individual swimmers who are improving performance with Race Pace Training techniques.  Ultra Short Race Pace Training (USRPT) is based on the concept that athletes should be working out at actual race speeds in order to refine and improve their technique for competition.  USRPT is producing excellent results for competitive swimmers, including World Champions and World Record holders.  You can find lots of useful information about this new approach at USRPT.org.

Teaching Yoga
“I teach yoga and it’s perfect! I like the fact that it has just the single button to start, stop, reset. That makes it easy to use. I can operate it without stopping the class to find the right button to push.”

Pilates
“Best stopwatch we’ve ever used at CORE10 Pilates! Leaves us hands-free to teach the class and jump on the reformer when we need to demonstrate.”

Great Tool for Soccer Referee
“I have relied on SportCount during youth soccer games as center ref. It worked great, was simple to use, and did not slip on my finger. Outstanding product!”

Curling

“I have it attached to my broomhandle to time the speed of the stone as it travels down the ice. Many of my fellow curlers are jealous as they carry a bulky old-fashioned track stopwatch attached to their belt or a bulky timer that also connect to the broom handle, but who needs the extra weight?”

Water Walkers Welcome
“I am a aquatic fitness instructor and recently started teaching a water walking class. Since everyone in the class is talking while we are walking we lose track of how many lengths we have completed. I borrowed my husband’s SportCount that he uses for counting laps while swimming and found it works great for us water walkers. I guess we need to buy another SportCount for me!”

SportCount for Prayer
“I use my SportCount to count my prayers which is called zhikr. Instead of using prayer beads I use SportCount to count how many times I repeat my mantra. It works great! It is so hard to use prayer beads in everyday life. While at work or at home doing everyday stuff I can still do my zhikr(prayers). And it is like a reminder that is always on my finger…”

Fly Fishing & Swimming
“I originally purchased the SportCount for lap swimming, but I quickly realized that I could utilize its capabilities for another hobby of mine, fly fishing. I primarily fish in lakes from a float tube and have caught and released up to 125 fish during a days outing. Yup, I said 125 fish. Of course that number of fish can be hard to keep track of. Enter the SportCount. Not only can I keep track of the number of fish that I caught, but I can keep track of the interval between fish! And when I dip my hand in the water to release a fish, no worries…its waterproof!”

Agriculture Numeration
“My SportCount served me well in the fields where we count sheep and other livestock. We herd em through the gate and count them as they run through. I just click once for every ten animals. Works great even in dust or rain.”

Natural Exercise for Expecting Mom
“Swimming was a great way for me to keep active during my pregnancy, and I like to keep track of my laps and time with my SportCount, so when I went in to labor, it was natural to use it to time my contractions. It was a pretty good distraction from the labor pains, too.”

Bean Counter No More
“I’m so glad for SportCount! I used to count beans in the pool! Literally! For each lap I’d alternate between placing a white or dark bean at the end of the pool on the outside edge. Those beans would let me know how many laps I’d done and how many miles that equated to, and boy was it hard system to use, but I couldn’t think of anything better. Beans are heavy to swim with, even in a pouch! I’m thankful SportCount counters are light-weight, resistant to water and don’t require extra reaching out of the pool!”

Ultra Runner
“I participate in ultrarunning events, where the mileage exceeds that of a marathon. In 24 hour track events, the participant is usually required to make visual and verbal contact with his/her assigned lap counter. I use my SportCount to confirm my laps and communicate my lap strategy to the assigned counter, eg., “I’m going to take a walking lap every 10th lap” My SportCount acts as a silent training partner, with the individual lap times, and assists keeping me focused and having fun with the event. My SportCount has been part of many ultraruns, and has definitely assisted me in achieving 100 miles plus in a 24 hour event. I “count” on it for the daily workouts as well. Thanks for helping to keep the smiles in my miles!”

Counting Wildlife
“I work at an aquarium. We are participating in a captive breeding program of the near-extinct Boreal (or Wyoming) Toad. When we have had a successful hatch it is my job to count the tadpoles. We do this by siphoning the tadpoles through clear surgical tubing with a black magic marker ring drawn on the outside. When a tadpole passes through the ring it is counted. As you can imagine, counting tadpoles is a wet job. My traditional thumb counter had rusted. I began to borrow a friends swim lap counter and it works great!”

In the Winner’s Circle
“3 years ago I participated in a resistance marathon and [SportCount] helped me to count my laps. I won second place in my category! When you participate in resistance marathons, you have to keep up with the same pace. The first half hour you’re ok, the second half you get really tired and your mind sometimes grows distracted, so it was great to keep track of my laps and it sure helped me win!!”

Penny for your lap?
“Before finding out about SportCount, I used to carry a bunch of coins in my swim bag. I would leave a pile at one end of the pool and for every lap I would move a penny from one pile to another representing one lap, two laps will be two pennies, After five laps I would move a nickel and after ten laps it would be a dime. The system works but my swim bag was getting heavy and I got tired of carrying messy coins in my swim bag . . . Let me tell you, the coins get really messy when it reacts with the chlorine! Thank goodness for SportCount!”

Counts and Adjust for Small Fingers
“My mind wanders while swimming laps in the pool and I lose track of what lap I’m on. So I did some research and came across SportCount. Luckily a friend had one and I was able to borrow. It adjusted to my tiny fingers and was amazing. I ordered one for me and a friend the next day. Now I don’t have to count to pass the time of 50+ laps in the pool.”

Great for all Ages
“I’m 83 years old and swim 1200 meters every other day. At my age, I`m lucky to remember my name, let alone how many laps have I swam! Sport count is perfect for my needs.”

Ring of Power
“At 45, I’d never learned to swim and couldn`t go canoeing with my sons at scout camp. I started swimming to pass the test, and within a year could pass the mile swim. My wife used my new interest to buy me a DVD called `Freestyle Made Easy` and a SportCount 100. The training made me into a life long swimming fan, and my SportCount is now called my `Ring of Power` and my trusted friend in the pool (envied by many others). I now can swim over a mile in butterfly, and 8 miles freestyle, and use the SportCount not just for pool laps, but for timing in openwater swims as well. THANK YOU!”

Great Find / el hallazgo
“Soy nadadora master desde hace seis ańos y el tema de contar las piscinas, saber los tiempos y promedios por piscina era todo un reto hasta que navegando en Internet descubrí el contador de piscinas, ¡desde ese momento sea por internet, por alguien que viaje renuevo el modelo y voy compriendo el hallazgo!!”

“I have been a master swimmer for six years and had the challenging issue of counting laps, knowing times and averages per lap—until I discovered SportCount. I found SportCount on the Internet while searching for pool counters. Right away, I looked at several models and purchased this great find!”

Randonneurs delight
“I am a regular brevet rider and the sport counter helps me maintain and train my HR levels in a steady note. Its keeping me sturdy as well!”

Simple Counter That Works
“I don’t know if its because I`m in my mid 50`s but I always lose track of how may laps I`ve done during swims. I train 2 to 3 times a week and usually swim 36 laps, which is about a mile. Unlike fellow swimmers, I like to swim a designated distance, not a designated amount of time. Before I picked up a SportCount lap counter I would always lose track of my count mid swim. This handy little gadget was a life saver. It is easy to use and well worth the price.”

Back in the Game
“I was burned and my legs are scarred and I was fearful of competing. I decided to wear compressed stockings and get in the game. I participated in my first Tri in Sept. 2012 and just finished my 2nd Tri in April. I have another Tri on April 14th. When training I would lose time, miscounted laps and get frustrated. My Sportcount keeps count times my laps and is comfy. It rocks!”

Downhill Mt. Biker
“I race downhill mountain bikes, and the SportCount device fits nicely on my handlebars, and allows me to time my laps brilliantly. The simple button, allows me to start/stop without fiddling and whilst wearing my gloves. Brilliant device – so simple.”

Morning Swim Help
“I started swimming on a regular basis as I recovered from Achilles tendon surgery this winter.
Day by day I felt I was getting stronger and I was becoming a more efficient swimmer. Training at 6:45am I had the ability to breathe and I could count laps but at that early hour I couldn’t do both at the same time. I purchased a SportCount Combo and I worked hard to reduce my lap times each morning. I adhered to the old acronym LOFO, last one fast one. I became curious to see how my times stacked up against others in my age group. I was surprised and delighted to learn that my freestyle and breaststroke times were pretty competitive when compared to standards for 59 year olds. And I was crushed to learn that the reason the times were good was because I was swimming in a twenty yard pool, not a standard 25 yard facility.”

Learned to Swim, Lost Weight, and a Better Back
“Six years ago I was going to physical therapy for my back. They offered water therapy and I love the water so I took them up on it. I was not a good swimmer but the therapist taught me to swim. I was one of the younger participants and my husband had just been deployed to Iraq. I had the extra time to find swimming aids and gadgets. I would get something and everyone wanted one, so I have probably purchased close to 25 timers, counters, and combos. I now am 70 pounds lighter, my back is much better and I swim a mile each morning at 6am. I have a spreadsheet showing my progress for the last 5 years.”

First Triathlon
“I started training for my first triathlon in January 2008 at the age of 57. I set small goals for myself to keep motivated. I use my SportCount to track the laps I swim. I have achieved many small goals including swimming my first mile 7 months after I began swimming! My next goal is to swim 2 miles and I know my SportCount ring will help me track my progress over time and celebrate new victories.”
